AI Is Changing Controlling, but Not the Way Many Expect

I spend a lot of time on the question of how corporate steering is changing, from mid-sized companies to large groups. Lately I have been particularly interested in how companies deal with the current volatility, and what role AI plays in that.

So I spoke with two people experiencing this change first hand: Jannis Friedag, CFO at sofatutor, where AI already reaches deep into content production. And Matthias von Daacke, Head of Global Controlling at BLANCO, where cost pressure and shifting supply chains demand new approaches in controlling. Those conversations became a panel discussion at the ICV Controlling Competence Spaces.

What impressed me is that both companies look ahead optimistically despite the upheaval. In that future, AI takes over a lot of routine work and creates room for what genuinely adds value: business partnering, advice, strategic discussion.

The route there is not a grand master plan but trying things, learning, carrying on. Mistakes are part of it. What matters is that small successes become visible and convince others of the value of the change.

My conclusion: we do not reach the controlling of the future through perfect planning. We reach it by starting.
