Are We Talking Too Much About the Talent We Lack?

For a long time I thought that for AI in finance, companies mostly needed new people. Today I am less sure.

A Gartner survey of CFOs shows AI talent as their biggest near-term challenge. The obvious answer is recruiting. And yes, certain profiles do have to be brought in.

But what does digitally enabled actually mean in a controlling team? Not that everyone can prompt like a champion. Rather that people understand what a model fundamentally does. And which question they should be asking it in the first place.

Those capabilities come mainly from letting your own people work on real cases. Gartner recommends exactly that: enable your existing workforce before buying externally.

Someone who runs the forecast every quarter knows the company in detail. Especially the special cases. Giving that person a tool is easier than explaining the business to someone from outside.
